Midori 2025 Show Poster

Design and photography by Tung X. Dao — Tree by anonymous Midori Club Member

This year’s show poster, titled Bonsai Style, beautifully encapsulates the essence of our upcoming bonsai exhibition. The centerpiece of the poster is a stunning pyracantha, adorned with vibrant berries that evoke the rich hues of the fall season. Its trunk, gracefully contorted, resembles a fashion model strutting down a catwalk, symbolizing the elegance and artistry inherent in bonsai cultivation.

The design serves as a nod to the diverse styles of bonsai that enthusiasts have developed over the years, showcasing the creativity and skill of our members. Each bonsai style tells a unique story, reflecting not only the natural beauty of the trees but also the personal touch of the artist behind it. The whimsical display highlights the interplay between nature and human artistry, reminding us that bonsai is not just a hobby but a form of expression.

This particular tree, featured in the 2024 show, is the work of an anonymous club member. The poster design and photography is by Tung Dao.

Join us for the 62nd Annual Bonsai Show at the Quinlan Community Center on Saturday, October 4, 2025. With free admission from 10 AM to 5 PM, the show will have demonstrations, beginner workshops, and an ikebana display.

Marin Bonsai Club 2025 Show

Design and photography by Tung X. Dao — Shohin Elm by John Doig

The Marin Bonsai Club’s poster for the upcoming show prominently features a captivating shohin elm created by the talented John Doig. This bonsai captures the essence of miniature artistry, showcasing the traits that define the shohin style. In the composition is a small bumble bee located in the upper left corner, representing the vital role that pollinators play in our ecosystem.

The layout of the poster includes a bold red banner at the bottom, along with the depiction of the tree and the bumble bee. This design choice pays homage to the California flag, symbolizing the unique Californian interpretation of bonsai that our club embraces. The colors and thoughtful arrangement invite viewers to appreciate both the artistry of bonsai and the beauty of nature.

The theme of this year’s show—Tiny Trees. Tiny Creatures.—is a clever nod to the Marin County Fair’s 2025 theme: Bugtastic! This playful connection highlights the important relationship between bonsai and the tiny creatures that inhabit our world. By celebrating both the trees and the insects, we emphasize the interconnectedness of all living things, fostering a greater appreciation for biodiversity.

Join us at the Marin County Fair from July 2-6, 2025, for an enchanting display of beautiful bonsai. This show invites visitors to explore the fascinating world of bonsai with a fine display and opportunities to learn how bonsai are created. 🌳
