Midori Club History
Our history goes back several decades.
1960’s-2001
The club started when two bonsai enthusiasts posted a bulletin at a local nursery.
2001-Today
The club has continued to provide a welcoming environment for new and experienced bonsai artists alike to this day.
Midori’s Future
The club continues to find new ways to pass on knowledge and skills to the next generation of bonsai artists.
It is Midori’s goal to its members, regardless experience, to expand the member’s appreciation, skill, and overall knowledge in bonsai and to impart to them the importance of seeking bonsai excellence in their trees.
Midori Bonsai Club is a non-sensei club. The closest the club came to having a sensei was when we hired Johnny Uchida to provide instruction three times a year from 1981 through 1985.
Midori, in the past and currently, regularly invites talented lecturers and demonstrators to further develop our knowledge and understanding of bonsai techniques and procedures. The club sponsors workshops conducted by Bonsai Masters as well as beginner and intermediate classes and study groups led by club teachers.
Midori is also active in collecting trees from nature.
The club maintains an excellent library of books and reference publications as well as current magazines that are of interest in the bonsai community.
