Happy Holidays to everyone this final month of 2021, a year that has seen so many components of our normal lifestyle changed.

We had decent storms in November to start off the rainy season. The nights are going to be cold.

A friend of mine decides one day to get into bonsai. She has zero experience. Jade plant to the rescue!

For the month of November, our first Thursday meeting will be entitled Looking For Great Bonsai Material by Gordan Deeg.

It felt nice getting our first big rain of the year. Now let’s hope we get it regularly and it’s not just a one-off.

We would like to introduce Nancy Schramm as our copy editor, a new newsletter format, and some trees from a land far, far away.

Last month’s auction was a complete success that went on throughout the evening with great enthusiasm and vigorous bidding. I wanted to thank the many club members that went over the top allowing the club to take 100% of the sold items.

In late October, as the deciduous trees turn color, they signal that the tree is cutting off contact with the leaves.

I want to share a few guest articles and a small update from my life as a Newsletter Editor.

We're now entering into our third month since we reopened our club meetings. It's a great feeling now to have a twice-a-month program of bonsai instruction that will keep our skill levels up and appreciation for the hobby we all enjoy and cherish.

September is truly a transitional time in bonsai where we can work on conifers, deciduous, and broad-leaf evergreens to guide them from all-out growth and ramification, and to holding and directing the tree’s energy for the big push next spring.

Bonsai material is hard to find, and these auctions have been excellent at providing unexpected items for us bonsai nuts.

I couldn’t be happier seeing the outcome of our attendance this past First Thursday meeting. After a span of 16 months without any sort of an in-person meeting we saw new visitors and club members totaling 35 altogether.

This month I will be doing a styling demo of a collected Coast Live Oak that I acquired from Steve Awaki At the Sei Boku Bonsai Kai sale earlier this year.

What an amazing experience it was to have everyone meeting and working on trees again in July. It was a delight to see old faces and new alike working on trees again.
